266 Days and Counting

Well let us just review.  Back on the 15th of Kislev 5773 (29th of November 2012), the UN Gen. Assembly voted to establish Palestine as a nation with observer status at the United Nations.  The vote was 138 to 9, and it called for Palestine to have its capital in what the UN calls Occupied East Jerusalem or Al Quds depending upon whether you are a Xtian, pagan, Communist, or Muslim.  It was noted by Jewish End of Days at the time that the Talmud Yerushalami when discussing the names for Mashiach asks what do the names Tzemach and Menachem have in common?  They both have the gematriah of 138.  Also a quorum of ten nations did not vote against the division of Jerusalem/ Al Quds.  So there were not ten righteous nations to be found in all the earth.  So the official nine months began.

So what were the causes for delay in the nine months?  Why did it not begin on Tisha B'Av 5772 60 days after the Flame virus had been spotted in the cyber-rakia?  So many bloggers and Geulah websites were focused on Tisha B'Av 5772, not just this one.  And what happened is that the Syrian Civil War blew up almost four-fold with over 5000 people being killed every month since Tisha B'Av 5772.  Yet, the nations of the world stood by and watched.  The answer is two fold for the delay.

1. After Hurricane Sandy, Jews in America needed a full summer to make Aliyah.  The best time to make Aliyah for families with children is during the summer.  It is very difficult to pull up stakes during the middle of a school year.  So HaShem had mercy on American Jews by giving them a full summer to make Aliyah after Sandy and the re-election of Obama which came in large part as a direct result of the hurricane and how presidential he looked.  The once in a 300 year storm should have been the boot to kick Jews who are awake out of the coming h-ll hole.  The pyramids of sand from Sandy's cleanup in Far Rockaway were a nice Divine touch.  Yet, when America sealed its fate by re-electing the Man of Chaos, there should have been no question in any sane person's mind that America would soon die.  Chareidi schools in Israel have been in session since the 1st of Elul.  And the Govt. schools officially begin next Tuesday, the 21st of Elul.  At least that summer Aliyah moment time is now up.

2.  Because our collective merit for Geulah is the Shoah and the 6 x 300 year cycles of Churban that preceded it for a total of 7 cycles of Churban, we need to be at least 72 years (from Alot HaShachar to sunrise) after the beginning of the massacre of Jews during the Shoah along with having 6 million Jews in Israel including long term yeshivah students here on tourist Visas.  Prior to the invasion of the Soviet Union, Jews were either worked to death in hard labor camps or were crowded into various Polish and other East European ghettos.  The official date for the beginning of the Final Solution was the 2nd of Shevat 5702 with the Wannsee Conference, but the large scale massacres of Jews began in late June 1941 with the invasion of Belarus and basically the entire Soviet border.  It got so bad so quickly the the Massacre at Babi Yar was already on the 8th of Tishrei 5702 just before Yom Kippur.  So we are now in the zone to be redeemed in the merit of what would be the worst part of the Shoah since the worst injury of the galut was at Alot HaShachar.  And Ya'akov was healed from his hip wound at sunrise by the Face of G-d.

So let us quickly recap what has been discussed in the extensive comment section of this blog.  According to the Talmud in Niddah, there is a Torah from Sinai that the "official" length of pregnancy is 271 days where 266 days are exactly nine Hebrew months.  So 271 days are nine months and five days.  The Talmud tells us that one of the reasons for this is because HeRaYON (pregnancy) has the gematriah of 271.  Ok that is fair enough.  The 271st day happens to be the 21st of Elul.  Now there is a perturbation in the calendar this year.  Hillel HaSheini did not want Yom Kippur to fall out on Motzei Shabbat.  So he shortened the month of Kislev 5773 to 29 days when it most often has 30 days.  This moved up every day of the year following the 29th of Kislev by one day and placed all the moladim (births of the New Moons) on Rosh Chodesh itself before the moon could be seen that following evening. THIS NEVER HAPPENED IN ANCIENT TIMES!  In ancient times it was always assumed that Rosh Chodesh could not begin until at least 6 hours after the molad when the moon might be seen that following evening.  As a matter of fact the Talmud in Rosh HaShanah discusses an example when Yom Kippur was set to fall on Motzei Shabbat, and Beit Din decided to add a 30th day to Elul just so that vegetables would not spoil by sitting around for two days.  So the decision by Beit Din was to delay Rosh HaShana until Friday night pushing off Yom Kippur until Sunday night even though the moon could be seen on Thursday night prior to Rosh HaShana.  So Beit Din often used its power to extend a month by one day from 29 to 30 days, but it never used its power to shorten a month by a day so that the molad would actually fall on the first day of the next month.  Yet, we follow the calendar of Hillel HaSheini, and I am not going to start telling people to commemorate festivals one day later.   Yet, is should be pointed out that the 271st day should be the 20th of Elul because the 21st of Elul this year should be the 20th of Elul as it would be in almost every other year.

This is only important because of the following statement in Medrash Sefer Eliyahu in the sidebar to this blog:

On the twentieth (day) of Ellul, the Messiah will come: his name is Yinnōn.  On that same day Gabriel will descend (and) from the ninth to the tenth hour will destroy from the world ninety-two thousand people.

Because of the exactness of this prophesy in a medrash which is already incredibly accurate such as predicting Operations Moses and Joshua, the first rescue of Ethiopian Jewry to the very day and predicting the last Prime Minister's name from the Erev Rav at the End of Days (TRMLO).  Now no year is given for the above statement.  So we are simply declaring a WATCH for two days next week, the 20th and the 21st of Elul, next Monday and Tuesday.  If it happens, we will surely know about it.  But please don't say that I am predicting anything.  It is just a WATCH notice....with our kids in Israel safely back in school or at school in Israel for the first time.  Welcome to all of you who correctly interpreted the message of Hurricane Sandy and Obama's subsequent re-election.

UPDATE:  I just linked to the Jewish End of Days post which speaks about the UN vote mentioned above.

Happy 35th anniversary, ozarkyid!

My husband and I celebrate our 6th aliyah anniversary on 20-21 Elul (left on the 20th & arrived early on the 21st). It was Labor Day in America at the time.

Thank you for the Pat Dollard link.

I grew up with such left wing Jews like Lois Lerner. It is important to understand what makes them tick. The previous generational belief in the proletarian Man is not the main Avodah Zarah of Jews with which I grew up. It is their "personal popularity" that causes them to shine when they believe in left wing causes. They want to be part of the 99% as opposed to the dreaded 1%. So supporting liberal, socialist, and downright Marxist causes gives them access to the love that they should be seeking from the Creator of the Universe. But because of the intensity of the suffering in Jewish history, they have given up on Him.

But there are many Lois Lerners in America. Three of them sit on the US Supreme Court and voted to strike down Defense of Marriage Act. And it pays well to be popular. Just ask the Erev Rav Mayor of NYC Michael Bloomberg about how this avodah zarah pays well. It definitely gives them mikneh kaved (heavy assets). At an early age, these left wing Jews tried to induct me into their cult. For whatever reason I rebelled and bear the emotional scars of that rebellion today. I saw at the nolad (the birth) the wickedness that these Jews would aspire to when they grew up. They were my classmates in Kindergarten and First Grade. So it definitely was close to their nolad. Somehow I saw it even back then when I was barely 6 years old. I thank G-d daily for preventing me from descending into their world when I was most vulnerable.

And now we hear from the opposite side of the spectrum of total depravity and wickedness, the Erev Ze'ir.

Moshe Gafni Loves Meretz

Gafni, who had no qualms about enabling the Disengagement from Gaza 8 years ago, speaks out about his political alliance with Meretz. Gafni is not in this for his own political or personal popularity or his belief in the overriding Avodah Zarah of World Public Opinion. He ostensibly believes these things that he spouts because he wants to support Torah in Eretz Yisrael by making an alliance with Socialist apparatchiks. His Torah, though, is the Torah of perpetual galut. He has a greater Chavivut (closeness) with Jews in Brooklyn than he does with Jews in Chevron or Kiryat Arba or Beit El. Yet, in this Shmittah cycle the money from the US is slowing down considerably. So making deals with left wing apparatchiks in Labor and Meretz will in his belief help the Torah to survive for another generation of perpetual galut without Geulah. Sad evil dude, and it speaks volumes that 8 years after the Disengagement both Gafni and Litzman lead United Torah Judaism, the Ashkenazic Chareidi political party. So few learn so little.

8/23/2013 11:16 AM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

Perhaps Gafni has forgotten and needs a little reminder. Meretz more than any other political party has been at the forefront of placing Women of the Wall with tallit, tefillin, and chanting from the Torah in the women's section at the Western Wall, the Kotel. Many Chareidi women have worked hard to keep WOW out of the women's section, and along comes Gafni forming an alliance with what should be his natural foe. The wicked don't realize to what level they stoop when they dismiss their basic principles.

Gafni is joining Meretz to help the poor . That is real Torah It starts and ends with Chesed . Lapid , Bennet and company might in your view somehow represent Torah ,But Torah without Chesed is Ra - Evil .

Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

The mitzvah of Chessed is for you and me. It is not incumbent on the State to do Chessed. As a society we set up state agencies and institutions to take care of the poor and the disabled, but the mitzvah lies with us. It is a horrible alliance for a Torah party to make themselves dependent on the wicked in the State apparatus for the purpose of receiving money. They then allow themselves to become a tool of the wicked in exchange for cash. It is a form of prostitution. The Talmud in Sotah and in Sanhedrin says that the houses of learning will become a houses of prostitution at the End of Days. On a literal level this has NOT happened. Torah learning has flourished. Yet, when UTJ (Gafni and Litzman) sold itself to Sharon in Dec. of 2004 in order to enable his evil program which has killed and maimed dozens of people in the intervening years, it did just that.

I am also against the cut that just occurred in the child credit. I believe it went too far, but again the mitzvah to help the poor lies with us as individuals and with private tzedakah organizations. It is time for most Chareidim to find a trade to provide income for their families except for Matmidim whose true craft is the Torah itself.

What percentage of government funds actually went to support chareidim? I tried to research it but was surprised that I could not find concrete statistics to support the proposition that chareidim were draining the economy.

Also, are the chareidim really "needed" by the IDF, or is enlistment really just a tool to secularize the last bastion of Torah?

I have serious concerns about what is going on in the Holy Land.

Reb Dov, you speak wisdom and true Torah. How can some of these chareidim join up with the enemies from within, such as Meretz, just for the money; there has to be some kind of twisted thinking in their understanding of Torah. When will Torah Jews all unite with true understanding of what we are all about, or should be. Two, so called religious definitions of religious in the memshalah (some of the chareidim & the state worshiping nationalists), and both are wrong.

All Charedei Gedolim and leaders say that if your not learning you should go to work . The problem has been that you needed to join the Treif army in order to go work . Nachal Charedei was started with Rav Steinmans support for people who could not learn to kosher up the army ,but there still was and is problems from time to time.

Lapid and Bennet want that all Charedim should not learn except for a very limited group .In order to carry out their evil plans they are instituting draconian cuts on All sectors of Israeli society just in order to put more pressure on Torah learners.
They are really fighting against the One who gave the Torah . They of course will never succeed against Him and He will severely punish them and all who support their plans.

Any idea why Bibi is going to Rome on Sept 8? Days of Awe.
Meeting Kerry while there?

This from Ma'ariv via A7 :

Netanyahu to Meet Kerry in Rome at Start of September

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu intends to pay a three-day visit to Rome, starting on September 8th, according to a Friday report in the Ma'ariv daily. While in Rome, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta and Secretary of State John Kerry of the United States.

The meeting between Netanyahu and Kerry will be the first since Kerry announced the resumption of direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. About three weeks after the trip to Rome, Netanyahu is scheduled to address the General Assembly of the United Nations.

I think the meeting in Rome, Italy or Maryland when it occurs will be after Bibi has the gumption to tell the world to Go to H-ll. Right now, very few Israelis have the emunah or the bitachon to do that. The conference described for Rome in the Zohar VaYeira 119 is a conference where almost all the nations in the world are in attendance. The year 73 date given in the Zohar could be from Rosh Chodesh Nisan because that same page of the Zohar added a half a year to the year 5766 and 5772 so that the year 5773 could extend until Rosh Chodesh Nisan 5774 while it began in Nisan of 5773. I made this point in the comments section of a previous post. In many ways Bibi's cowardice represents the cowardice of the avg. Israeli. No nation in modern history has ever survived the onslaught of the entire world whether it was in South Africa or in Kosovo. Bibi is a CFR guy, and in the world of real-politick he does not see how we could survive it. His children have more faith than he does. Right now the avg. Israeli does not realize how close we are to a miraculous redemption. They will only believe it when they see it and cannot explain it in terms of their own strength and military strategy.

I am just wondering if we can add the last several months - over 2 years now - of Syrian deaths which were 5,000 per month more or less (less at the beginning) and come to the amount of 92,000 deaths? 92,000 divided by 5,000 is 18.5 months. So by Elul 20 - there HAS been that many deaths, or does it have to be all within one-two days?

I think by now there are at least 105,000 dead. The 92,000 figure was actually mentioned two months ago!

Plus it is between 3 and 5 pm DST, which would be 2 to 4 pm standard time. It is not clear if this is Israel time or local time where the event takes place. I can't believe that Eliyahu HaNavi is being so precise. Even Moshe Rabbeinu said that the First born would die APPROXIMATELY at midnight.

DEBKAfile: Three US options for destroying Syria’s chemical arsenal
DEBKAfile August 24, 2013, 9:46 AM (GMT+02:00)

DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources reported Saturday that President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel were weighing three options: One: Striking the Syrian unit which perpetrated the poison gas last Wednesday east of Damascus. Two: Destroying the Syrian army’s three chemical weapons depots. Or Three: Coordinated attacks on the first two targets.
For Options Two and Three, the attack would have to destroy all the poison shells without them exploding and leaking their contents across wide regions of Syria and neighboring Turkey, Israel and Jordan. The Syrian ruler is capable of having the shells’ contents mixed and armed ready for use, thus maximizing the deadly impact of deadly gases across a broad Middle East region.

Aside - some banks may have Jewish names but the principals are now all goyim. It wouldn't surprise me if they were also supporting the wars going on leading up (or down) to the end, along with the governments we have been talking about.

Why our friend of the Secret Service suddenly leave the USA with little more that his family and the clothes on his bacK?

Because as he said "It's all about to collapse completely in America, everything. I had to get my family out before it would be impossible to leave." "The currency is about to collapse, the economy, and it will not be safe."

Our Secret Service friend has been in close quarters with members of congress for several years. He has heard all the talk in the hallways and as they say, "knows where the bodies are buried."

If Hurricane Sandy followed one week later by Obama's re-election did not wake people up to at least try to come by the end of this summer, then people are walking around with blinders. Sandy was a once in 300 year storm. The combination of a powerful storm that did not immediately head out to sea north of Cape Hatteras, NC and a Nor'easter headed right for the New Jersey shore timed perfectly with the storm was a supernatural event. And the fact that it was timed to happen one week before Obama's re-election so much so that it was the number one thing in the minds of Americans when they went to vote made the perfect storm even more supernatural. Romney's one point lead in the Rasmussen poll was erased easily because Obama looked so Presidential. The re-election of a truly evil man which looked impossible even a month before the election happened. G-d wanted to show that Romney's attempt at attracting undecideds by looking Presidential would not win over Evil, and Evil won.

It was time to bail, to leave the sinking ship or at least to make preparations with non-perishable food in a country location away from the voters that put Obama into his future position as Dictator. Some people have actually made the effort to at least get ready for the coming storm even if they are stuck in the lands of our dispersion. The others are either fools or have joined the ranks of the wicked. There are no fence-sitters for this final birur.

The Daily Telegraph in the UK is reporting that an American and British missile strike on Syria is highly likely within one week.

That newspaper is not perfect, and has got things wrong in the past, but it is as authoritative as a newspaper can be in the UK, on a par with it's peers The Times and The Financial Times.

They suggest that the military action on Libya will provide a template, which means cruise missile attacks from submarines, at least at first.

The UK used it;s entire cruise missile stock against Libya, so it is unclear if re-armament has been fully completed.

I think the French may well join in too, with Premier Hollande wanting to draw attention away from high domestic taxes and economic woes.

If an attack is to be within the week, then it is 99.9% that US and UK Special Forces are in Syria, preparing targeting information, and may well have been there for months.

It is actually a world war between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites. NATO supports the Sunnis, and Russia supports the Shi'ites. Edom is being swept up into this war because it stands for nothing anymore. Edom believes in nothing anymore besides materialism. Yishmael still believes in something spiritual even if the concepts are very dark. Edom is being swept up in this Islamic Civil/ World War.

But with the possible entry of UK and US, that changes things. Maybe France too? The so-called Spring uprisings were the Sunni vs Shiites. The last King will be Jordan. I was at a Kenes yesterday and it was clearly stated that Jordan's King is on his way out, pretty soon. Then that leaves the Seculars (who actually side with Israel) vs the Bros. The King himself said so; its just a matter of time. Plus when this peace farce is over, it spells the end of Assas too. Therefore, its the Bros springing into action to the East of the Jordan River.

Isn't there a stage AFTER the Sunni vs Shiites? WIth NATO staying out, and not taking action, isn't that taking sides?

Personally, I don't think the US will go in, they're just putting up a show. If they do, it is big trouble for Israel. So, for that reason, they shouldn't go in.

Just an FYI. As you all know, our sources say that the war at the End of Days, the last great war, is between the West and Shi'ite Persia. Neither the Gemorrah nor the medrashim mention the word Shi'ite. Yet, it is clear now that this war is between the West (Edom) and the entire Shi'ite world (including Persia and Hezbollah). The West is backing the Sunni world. It is why the King of Arabia turns to the King of Aram (or Edom) for advice on how to take care of the problem that they are having with Persia according to Rav Yitzchak in Yalkut Shimoni. Only now can we understand why. Saudi Arabia is Sunni, and Persia is Shi'ite. Both the Yalkut Shimoni and Medrash Sefer Eliyahu say that as this goes to b'itah, Persia will be winning that war in the Shmittah year. Yet, our ace in the hole to defeat Persia will be the "son of Gigi" according to Sefer Eliyahu. This part will most likely take place in the Shmittah year 5775. nuff said.

Neshama: The Arab Spring was basically the Sunni Islamicists versus the secular leaders. Obama and the West supported the Islamicists/ revolutionaries. In Egypt there was a 2nd revolution/ coup to oust Morsi who was elected as an Islamicist. It is unclear whom the West supports now. They seem very confused about that one. Now the Islamicists will take on the Kings while in 2011 they took on the Strongmen. So yes Abdullah is in trouble. In Syria the revolutionaries ran into a brick wall. Both Russia and Persia have separate reasons for supporting Assad, and neither will back down.

Well there is one practical difference between most Sunni and Shi'te nations. Sunni countries are usually lead by B'nai Cham (Mitzraim or Put for instance) or by Yishmael himself such as in Saudi Arabia. Persia as a Shi'ite Islamicist state is lead by Amalek. That makes the Persians more dangerous.

8/26/2013 7:21 PM
Blogger Dov Bar-Leib said...

One of the things that the Persians will do for instance that other Muslim countries won't do is that they will be a far greater source of suicide bombers than even the Sunnis will produce. They will die for the cause of destroying us in far greater numbers. This is one of the signs of Amalek as opposed to other more normal nations that simply hate us.

Dov

Based on the verse in Medrash Sefer Eliyahu - "A wind from the Lord lifted me (i.e., Elijah) up and transported me to the southern part of the world, and I saw there a high place burning with fire where no creature was able to enter. ..." - Would the Persians even go as far as to destroy Mecca despite believing Mecca to be holy place?

The reason I find it hard to believe to a certain extent (though it is not out of question) is that while a lot of Persians understandably hate Arabs, resent the imposition of an arab religion/culture on their country (see the fall of the Sassanids) and consider themselves to be the proud spiritual descendants of King Cyrus the Great, the Mullahs currently ruling Persia are doing their best to be more Arab then the Arabs while going about destroying, erasing, arabizing or islamizing everything they can on the ancient pre-Islamic heritage of Persia.

In light of the background above, it would seem secular anti-religious Persians appear to be almost as likely to destroy Mecca as the apocalyptic mullahs who foment chaos in order to bring about their vision of the End of Days, which looking at the big picture would make some degree of sense as a scenario likely to happen regardless of whether Edom or Persia wins.

It seems that we have a new Intafada because of today's events in Qalandiya. They are rioting all over their turf in Yerushalayim. Three of their lowlifes were killed by the IDF today as one of the murderers who was released for Gilad Shalit was about to be arrested. They started throwing cinder blocks and Molotov cocktails at the IDF urban assault vehicles. It seems to have stopped the Piece talks until the Ba'al Kerry and Bibi meet in Rome after Rosh HaShanah...if that meeting ever takes place.

Usually I can see fireworks from Qalandiya from our western window. There is a wedding hall there, and they fire off fireworks every night. No fireworks tonight though.

Jesterhead, I don't know. I think that the fire in the Medrash is the Midat of pure Judgement not tempered with mercy which Islam is famously known for. Fire usually represents G-d's midat HaDin. And water usually represents his Midat HaChessed. This is why Xtianity has purification by water. They call it Baptism. Islam is pure Din. Only in Judaism do we have the proper combination of the two.

For each of those 26 murderers that the Ba'al Kerry forced Israel to release from jail in order to restart piece talks, I don't know how many people across the world will die. The ratio is really impossible to know because no country in the history of the world ever released bloodthirsty savages from its jails to restart peace talks. What the Ba'al Kerry threatened Bibi with in order to get him to release those savages is as obscene as the hundreds or even "thousands" of bloodless bodies laid out there in white sheets. In the end the Ba'al Kerry will have himself to blame for all the American blood that will soon be spilled. He will chalk it up to happenstance and march on with his demand for Israel to release the next batch of 26 murderers. He is the Ba'al Kerry (master of happenstance) after all.

I should point out that the 9/11 attacks in 5761 were at 8:46am and 9:02am New York time. It was Mincha Ketanah in Israel, between the 9th and the 10th hours of the day on the 23rd of Elul, but only 3000 people died in the combination of all the attacks including the one against the Pentagon. I am still giving this until 10am tomorrow when it is Mincha Ketanah in Japan which is at the other end of the halakhic international dateline. (Actually that line now runs through the Koreas as pointed out before.)

Yes, Livni and Gafni are the opposite sides of the same evil coin. Gafni in particular in collusion with the Erev Rav delayed the Geulah one Shmittah cycle when he sent that letter of intent to enter Sharon's Disengagement Govt. on the 9th of Tevet 5765. Both Gafni and Livni need a very short leash and constant observation.

Computers, not necessarily including Internet courses, is simply one of the hard sciences. And even Internet courses can be taught with whatever filters the Chareidi world agrees on. Having Bagruyot in Math, Hard Science, and English might not be a bad idea. The Yeshivah learning track works well for Limudei Kodesh. They need to either design their own learning track for these handful of secular subjects or have one handed to them to work with. From what I just read, this Misrad HaChinuch proposal does NOT look like evil incarnate to me. As I just said, there is no problem with computer courses or with Bagruyot for the handful of secular courses.

I don't see any social science, Zionist History, or English and Hebrew literature courses being forced down their throats. So what is the problem?

Here is the timeline from Wikipedia for 9/11/01, 23rd Elul 5761 where 2996 people died:

At 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC), and at 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower (2 WTC).[7][8] Five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m.[9]

Again, Minchah Ketanah (between the end of the 9th and the beginning of the 10th hour) in Israel was around 3:50pm that very day, Sept. 11, 2001, which was 8:50am NYCity time. One might say that HaShem had compassion on America on that day and that Gavriel HaMalach only took just under 3000 souls from the world. I think that it was a warning shot, and that we have not yet had the main event predicted in the medrash.

But first they will kill each other. So far Kerry's "Declaration of War" is the event of the 20th and the 21st of Elul, the 270th and 271st day since the UN vote....so far.

Hello, I'm back from the shuk and other Yom Tov errands; the city is bustling and traffic is quite heavy here in Yerushalayim. Rosh HaShana is in the air!

"So what is the problem?" Well, secular subjects have never been in the yeshivot curriculum of old and of today. In fact I think it was Rabbi Chaim Volozhin who closed his yeshiva because of that. I believe in keeping the 'yeshiva system' as it was and is; but why not devise an 'after yeshiva' mandatory program for the secular subjects? There has to be a different way to work this out.

I agree with you that they are beneficial for preparing one to enter the work world. However, it doesn't seem spiritually fair or just to change the Yeshiva method that is so historical and famous.

re 911: I was on a train in Bklyn when the first plane hit, and when the second plane hit I was exiting out the back of the train with all the other passengers, as our train was prevented from going further once in Manhattan. We exited to the street and the array of fire, police, and other security personnel was shocking ... as they told us to run fast ... uptown, away from the area. When I got to Wash Sq Park I looked back and saw the Tower sinking from the skyline. It was the weirdest vision that countered the normal view. Only Verizon was working, all other services were cut. So I sat down for a few moments and and spoke to HaShem.

First of all I just want to make clear that my calculation for Mincha Ketanah for 9/11/01 is half way between high noon and sunset. The GRA (Vilna Gaon) for purposes of davening Mincha Ketanah halves the time between high noon and Tzeit Kochavim (when the stars come out). Yet, when counting the hours of the day, one goes from sunrise to sunset. answer more later.

I think that the secular subjects of 200 years ago did pose a threat to the Torah way of life. Hard sciences were in their infancy even though Newtonian Physics could be learned with few problems. Most of the secular subjects were in the liberal arts which are even today antithetical to Torah study. For the most part Philosophy and Politics as a course of study do detract from Torah study since they are not constants. The way of Truth whether it is true in both the secular (mathematical and scientific) and the Torah world, is that it does NOT change with the times.

dov, thanks for all the input. i did not realise my questions to you by email is here on the comment section. in one of my weekly parshas with the various orthodox sites, i received this.

""The great Rabbi E. E. Dessler, in the third volume of his Michtav me-Eliyahu, records a talk he gave in the yeshiva of Ponevezh, in Benei Beraq, shortly before he died, in 1953. In that talk, he describes the western world as characterised by ga'ava -- arrogance, that they believe in the power and wonder of their science and technology, and think that nothing is beyond it. Said Rav dessler, Either Esav will humble himsef, or Yishma'el waits in the wings to humble him; for Yishmael has the same she'ifa di-qdusha, ambition for holiness as his father Avraham had, to bring all the world under the wings of the Shechina, but (because of what the mal'ach told his mother, Hagar) he will try to do it in a wild way.

The Netziv explains that the phrase pere adam, used to describe Yishmael, does not mean "wild man". If it did, then the word pere would folow adam, since in the Holy Language adjectives follow nouns. Rather, it means one who makes men wild. Yishmael spread over many ancient, civilised countries, and made them wild men.
my rabbi goes on below:
So, if the Western world does not humble itself, and does not recognise its Creator, then Yishmael will humble them, and will force them to it.

and another article was attached in the lesson.
Talmud, Chulin 92
There are three mitzvot that th enations of the world accepted on themselves basically in order not to anger G-d to the point where they will lose the merits of previous generations. They vowed 1) never to grant marriage contracts to homosexuals 2) never to weigh out and sell human flesh in the market place and 3) to show respect for the Torah.

all three mitzvots are being broken today as never before.
the above quotes are from my email weekly parshas from various orthodox sites.

G-d save israel and in israel's merits may our sins (i.e. the nations of the world) be forgiven and we be saved also.

In that report, DEBKAfile was also the first to expose Assad’s poison gas attack as a warning of the heavy price he would exact for intervention in the Syrian war by foreign forces or by rebels trained by foreign forces – in this case US instructors and officers based in Jordan."

"Lebanon and Israel are in extreme jeopardy."

[there goes another theory]

Neshama: I believe that the Come and Hear translation of the Talmud is a good translation, but it is translated for the purpose of pointing out the "moral" problems and lack of tolerance of Rabbinic Judaism. One such claim for instance is that the Talmud allows for sexual relations with 3 year old girls. It does not cross reference. In one tractate, the Talmud talks about Kiddushin, that was frowned upon, with 3 year old girls, but another tractate insists that girls reach the "Age of Knowledge" before having relations which is not less than the Age of 12 years. Yes, Kiddushin in ancient times was done at a young age (like with Rivkah Imeinu when she was 3 years old) while Nissuin did not take place until the Age of Knowledge. Yet, the Come and Hear folks ignore this and have an ax to grind. So I cannot crosslink to their translations. Yet, most of their translations are accurate.

In response to ariela, our local news also provided a poll for viewers to respond. Interesting that they are asking the people about striking Syria, is it because they don't want the blame to rest on their shoulders in the event this explodes into a major world war? I can hear the media now, "well, polls were taken and the people want a response to thechemical attacks", even though you truly don't hear the voices of the American people. Anyone can change the poll numbers.

Leah: The idea being that G-d wants to make it clear that this time, unlike in 1967, He is redeeming us when we are completely neutered or powerless in the area of redeeming ourselves. Therefore it won't be the mighty IDF or the strength of a mighty General like Ariel Sharon. No one will be able to claim this time that we were redeemed because of our own strength as many did in 1967.

The poverty that you are referring to is really a reference to our powerlessness, what Soncino calls pettiest kingdom or more accurately understood as the pettiest possible leadership. This would refer to our so-called Justice Minister who is no more than a self-promoting narcissist. She is the essence of the word "petty".

Well there was a huge event over the last five days that has changed the course of history. It started on Day 266 (exactly 38 weeks or 9 Hebrew months after the UN vote) with the release of the chemical nerve gas attack news story, and on the 20th of Elul in the US at 3pm local US time (10pm 21st of Elul Israel time) the Sec. of State of the US basically told the world that the West was going to war in Syria. It came at the end of nine months. And I simply let the medrash do the predicting, and all I called it was a heads up. It was a heads up for a series of events whose details cannot be predicted. So what I will continue to do is to give a heads up, leaving G-d to fill in the details. But He told us that there would be nine months from the time that the world would come to divide Jerusalem and the birth of a Messianic process, and there was. From what I can tell, there are very few other exact time periods mentioned in our sources. The nine month pregnancy is one of the few if any left.

There is other time periods in the Zohar, but those time periods are dependent upon specific events at the outset that have not yet occurred. All I can promise to do is to make sure that all specific time periods are carefully sourced. The Final Geulah only comes once in a Creation. Events have to be tied to existing sources. On this blog I try to do that.

Jewish tradition speaks of two redeemers, each one called Mashiach. Both are involved in ushering in the Messianic era. They are Mashiach ben David and Mashiach ben Yossef.

The principal and final function ascribed to Mashiach ben Yossef is of political and military nature. He shall wage war against the forces of evil that oppress Israel. More specifically, he will do battle against Edom, the descendants of Esau.

The immediate results of this war will be disastrous: Mashiach ben Yossef will be killed. This is described in the prophecy of Zechariah, who says of this tragedy that "they shall mourn him as one mourns for an only child." (Zechariah 12:10). His death will be followed by a period of great calamities. These new tribulations shall be the final test for Israel, and shortly thereafter Mashiach ben David shall come, avenge his death, resurrect him, and inaugurate the Messianic era of everlasting peace and bliss.

Quite significantly, R. Saadiah Gaon (one of the few to elaborate on the role of Mashiach ben Yossef) notes that this sequence is not definite but contingent! Mashiach ben Yossef will not have to appear before Mashiach ben David, nor will the activities attributed to him or his death have to occur. All depends on the spiritual condition of the Jewish people at the time the redemption is to take place.

The essential function of Mashiach ben Yossef is to prepare Israel for the final redemption, to put them into the proper condition in order to clear the way for Mashiach ben David to come. Of that ultimate redemption it is said, that if Israel repent (return to G-d) they shall be redeemed immediately (even before the predetermined date for Mashiach's coming). If they will not repent and thus become dependent on the final date, "the Holy One, blessed be He, will set up a ruler over them, whose decrees shall be as cruel as Haman's, thus causing Israel to repent, and thereby bringing them back to the right path." In other words, if Israel shall return to G-d on their own and make themselves worthy of the redemption, there is no need for the trials and tribulations associated with the above account of events related to Mashiach ben Yossef. Mashiach ben David will come directly and redeem us.

As regards a response to threats of war, the Chabad Rebbe completely ignored the concept of danger and threat and repeated countless times that the Jewish people would enjoy special Divine protection. The Rebbe stated boldly that although the enemies of Israel plan their evil, “they have no substance, and they will not succeed in doing this, since ‘the guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps’” (Appendix II: #8, Bo). The Rebbe pointed out that the Yalkut Shimoni twice tells the Jewish people “do not be afraid”, thus emphasizing the underlying security we should have in Hashem at this time. Some excerpts:

“The Jewish people have the special promise of the Holy One ‘my children don’t be afraid, all that I have done I did only for your sake.’[…]It is clear that ‘the guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps’ in every place in the world where Jews are found, also outside of Eretz Yisrael.” (#7 Va’era)
“[…]these events didn’t harm the Jewish people at all, for they are the pupil of the eye of the Holy One, ‘one who harms you it is as if he harms the pupil of His eye’[…]especially including the Jewish people who dwell in our Holy Land[…]” (#8 Bo)
“Before the geulah the Jewish people dwell with security without fear from the fact that ‘the nations of the world are distressed and panicked’ because ‘the rulers of the nations of the world struggle with one another’, since the Holy One says to them (Israel), ‘My children, don’t be afraid, all that I have done I only did for you…’ (and it is repeated) ‘don’t be afraid, the time for your redemption has arrived’, ‘The King Moshiach…stands on the roof of the Beis Hamikdash and he announces by Israel and says humble ones, the time of your redemption has arrived.’” (#9 Yisro)
“The Holy One says to Israel ‘My children, don’t be afraid (‘you should not take it to heart’) all that I did I did only for your sake, the time of your redemption has arrived’, namely, that the Holy One Himself is involved with the redemption of Israel.” (#17 Ki Seitze)

In fact, it is precisely when the Jews trust Hashem and do not fear (as we are instructed by Hashem in the Yalkut Shimoni), and instead Jews “add in their Divine Service in learning Torah and fulfilling its mitzvos[…]this automatically causes stability in the entire world, in all the 70 nations of the world.” (#6 Toldos) It was this special protection, as promised in the Yalkut Shimoni, which enabled Israel to survive the Scud attacks of the Gulf War with what even the military experts called a “miraculous” minimum of casualties.

Says Rabbi Nir ben Artzi this week:

The King of kings, HaKadosh Baruch Hu, merciful Father, says to the People of Israel: 'I am fighting the wars of Israel. I am destroying Syria, Lebanon, Nassrallah, Hizballah, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Gaza and the Palestinians. I am fighting for your sake, fighting instead of the IDF soldiers, and you, the Jews (not everyone, but a large part) are sitting complacently, everything obvious, and not everyone raises their eyes to Heaven to see the process of the Creator of the World for the good of the People of Israel!'

The Creator of the World is doing all of this for the good of Am Yisrael, for the good of the Jews, because it is His will that the Jews will occupy themselves with returning in teshuva, in unity, in ahavat chinam between themselves and in devekut with the Creator of the World. 'I will fight for you and you will be silent. I am protecting you so that you will not have a complaint that you couldn't return in teshuva, pray and learn Torah, because of the nations' disturbances.' The Creator of the World says: 'Unto Me all the nations. I will deal with them personally. As long as you will cling to Me more, pray more and be busy repairing your character traits and praying - I will fight for your sakes, for full defense over Israel!' Whenever shells fall within Israel, it is directed by the Creator of the World. It's a whip in order to arouse Am Yisrael from complacency.

Syria, there's no need to panic, stress and fear from her. HaKadosh Baruch Hu is taking care of them," their swords will go into their own hearts and their bows will be broken." The IDF is prepared and ready, the Syrian president knows what is Tzahal, he won't make any mistakes, because if he makes one mistake, Tzahal will annihilate him and his soldiers in the shortest possible time.

The United States and Russia won't do anything, just threaten. They are smart, they will not want to enter into the whirlpool of Syria, the muck from which there is no return. They are only threatening from afar so that in Syria there will be fear and they will stop the balagan. If, God forbid, they will go in, it will be a hundred times bigger mess than it is now.

In Egypt, they are continuing to be in a commotion, because everyone wants control. People in Egypt without a job, hungry for bread, it's chaos there and everything is embroiled, they're not far from becoming like Syria.

The government of Israel needs to be careful about establishing a Palestinian state. A Palestinian state is a chokehold for the State of Israel, they will want to take all of the State of Israel. A lot of Arabs who live in Eretz Yisrael are full of ammunition and weapons, and are waiting for the appropriate time to help their Palestinian brothers, to unite with them and to fight against the State of Israel, "their swords will go into their own hearts and their bows will be broken."

Jordan is continuing to receive refugees in vast quantities and much of them are Hamas, if they don't stop them from entering, they will take over Jordan.

The Turkish president thinks that his threatening speech and shouting is frightening the people, don't worry, his turn is also coming - he's next in line.

The Iranian president smiles and waves as if he were a man of peace, everything is bubbling up by him, above as well as below the ground. If he doesn't make order and peace and stop nuclear production, HaKadosh Baruch Hu will inflict upon them an earthquake that they will never forget! And then say the beautiful sentence: "Their swords will go into their own hearts and their bows will be broken," they won't get a response from anyone in the world.

Lebanon can't do anything. Hizballah and Nassrallah are backsliding because Syria and Iran can't help them anymore.

Says Rabbi Nir ben Artzi furhter:

Katyushas and missiles are falling in Israel because Israel is complacent and the Creator of the World is arousing them so they will cling to Him. Am Yisrael, begin to pray in all seriousness, don't wait for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, prayer and psalms are cancelling decrees from Am Yisrael!

m Yisrael needs to grasp only the Creator of the World - prayer, charity and kindness will save all the Jews. The Creator of the World desires and loves to hear weeping and prayer of every single Jew. It's painful to the Creator of the World that there are Jews who turn his neck, who don't think about the future, who think only of the moment.

Every person who takes bribes, sins, does indecent acts, everyone will be exposed, especially the famous.

There will be an airlift of hundreds of thousands of Jews. Government of Israel - get ready!

There will continue to be complications all over the world in the forces of nature until there will be a shout and a great shout to the Creator of the World that He will crown the King Mashiach!

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and members of his family are in Tehran, after they arrived at Homeini Airport in the presidential plane Tuesday night, sources in Iran's foreign ministry told the website of Lebanese newsaper a-Nahar. The news did not receive confirmation from other official sources.

Daily newspaper Israel Hayom, which cites the report, notes that a-Nahar is considered close to Hezbollah as well as to the leadership in Syria and Iran.

According to the a-Nahar report, Assad was also accompanied by senior members of his government. They are to hold discussions with senior Iranians regarding the Syrian response to a possible U.S. strike on Syria, which is expected to take place soon.

A senior official in the Syrian army warned the United States and its allies on Tuesday that waging a full-scale war on Syria would be reciprocated with an immediate attack on Tel Aviv.

"If Damascus comes under attack, Tel Aviv will be targeted too and a full-scale war against Syria will actually issue a license for attacking Israel," the Syrian army source told the Iranian Fars news agency.

"Rest assured that if Syria is attacked, Israel will also be set on fire and such an attack will, in turn, engage Syria's neighbors," he added.

The source also warned the U.S. and other Western states that if Syria grows weak, “certain irresponsible groups” will be formed which will endanger Israel's security.

Disinformation is the intentional spreading of false information to change an outcome or perception. Among government agencies worldwide, disinformation is one of the oldest tricks in the book.

Disinformation has been an effective weapon against other nations in wartime. World War II is filled with stories of disinformation, such as Britain's daring and now-famous Operation Mincemeat. The Brits' elaborate plan involved planting false information, cleverly disguised as part of a highly classified communiqué, on the body of a deceased soldier and dumping him into the sea off the coast of Spain. The Spanish recovered the body and "top secret" documents, which suggested that even though it appeared that the Allies were planning to attack Sicily, in fact, they were planning to attack Greece instead. While the Allies' plan was still to invade Sicily, the disinformation was especially effective because it implied that Sicily was merely a "decoy" target designed to distract Axis leaders from the true goal of Greece. Axis sympathizers in the Spanish government passed the false information along to the Germans, who took the bait and shifted their defensive strategy based on what they believed was the truth [source: Macintyre].

I understand that there would be a need for new Olim and for babies. Yet, that does not add up to the 40% who still don't have masks. That seems extraordinarily high in a country that has had several major national distribution drives in the last two years. And there has been cause to have those drives, real threats.

Types of Procrastinators

1. Arousal: Thrill seekers that wait to complete tasks until the last minute for the rush.
2. Avoider: An avoider is afraid of failure or success. Rather than start a task they avoid it.
3. Decisional: They cannot make a decision. This way they don’t have to take responsibility for the outcome of the decision.

Unrecognized Inner Truth

This is another important reason for procrastination!

Sometimes when people procrastinate on something, it's their soul saying, "No! I hate this! I really don't want this in my life! Please, please, fix this awful life problem and make this obligation go away!"

Its not so simple. The Govt has let the people down in this particular area:
"MK Eli Yishai (Shas), chair of the Knesset Subcommittee for Home Front Preparedness, suggested Wednesday that the difficulties in gas mask distribution might reflect other problems in preparedness for possible attacks on the Israeli home front.

“The Israeli factories producing gas mask kits will be closed by October 2014 because of the Finance Ministry,” he charged, referring to planned cuts to the home front preparedness budget.

Yishai noted that the government had spent some NIS 200 million ($55 million) annually on the home front, but said Israel “must spend NIS 350 million to reach maximum preparedness.”

Is it possible that with many of these procrastinators, definitely not all of them, that there is cognitive dissonance at work?? The Left Coast media tells them that in order to be loved by the world they must hate settlers, and they therefore must believe that they can vacate a place like Beit El from which one can can stand on the water tower and see the entire Tel Aviv skyline. A short range missile can easily be launched from Ulpana Hill in Beit El into downtown Tel Aviv. Yet, they want to be popular more than life itself. So they have not taken care of something that could save their life because they are emotionally convinced by the media that it would never happen. Only now they have decided to panic because the reality has overtaken their willful pretense that missiles from Yesha won't ever hit Tel Aviv. What percentage of those in long lines today fall into that category??

Every time i went to the post office they didn't know where to send me, or where they sent me was wrong information. I called the number provided several times, it said "no information at this time". I visited the websites to find the sites where the masks were being given out. Nothing at the sites that were listed or no sites listed. I went to Hadar mall when neighbors also looking for the places discovered by accident they were there. I went immediately the next day, and there was nothing, but a cell phone kiosk man said yes they were here & are gone now. I chased and called for weeks and months. Every person i talked to that did get them found their places by accident. Discovered them somewhere being given out. This is what finally happened to me as well. After hundreds of wild goose chases discovered them in the basement of Kenion Malcha. So not everyone who is getting them now is necessarily a procrastinator. I am sure some are, but you can blame at least half of it on typical Israeli misinformation..& you know, the famous or infamous Israeli shrug.

Masks are mostly feel good protection, cheap and easy to give out. Real protection is to stay inside, preferably a sealed room, masks are for out in the open. This is not a NBC drill at the Fulda Gap. Syria could get off some missiles which could hit urban areas but chemical weapons to be anything other than terror stuff require artillery barrage to reach sufficient concentration that gravity(heavier than air) and wind wont drive it away.
A mask without a cheap plastic rain poncho is only partly effective but will save lungs and lives especially with sulfur mustard.
To stay alive in a gas attack get inside, even if you don't have a sealed room, if there is a concentrated gas attack and you have a drafty house a zipped shut (taped even better) camping tent should give most of the protection you need if panic buying has sold out all the plastic shabbos table covers and paint drop cloths.
Bleach(economica) or even baking soda will deactivate both mustard and nerve agents.
If you somehow have the atropine shot only use it if you know the effects of a organophosphate/nerve agent. For the medical pros it is a strong vagal/cholinergic SLUDGE reaction everyone else leave the shot alone in your kit.
For the panicky don't get too worried about the mask, remember to stay inside and prepare a sealed room, masks are for people who have to go outside the home during emergency times.
Gas is a terror weapon in the Syrian vs Israel context, they could never get sufficient concentrated artillery in range before loosing the assets to make it useful on the battlefield for a breakthrough.

To put it another way, learning to drive safely or filling in an unsupervised pool will have a much larger statistical significance in extending your life than getting a free rubber purim mask from the overloaded distribution centers even if Syria shoots chemical warheads.
I walked in to the center off Shmuel Hanavi in Jlem to see the scene today, I suspect they are intentionally sabotaging the distribution speed so panic doesn't break out when the last mask is distributed, there was actually a televised fist fight over free rubber masks.
Seal a room with plastic and tape, have more plastic and tape to seal the door, have a LED flashlight, radio, food, water, potty bucket(kitty litter to cover the stink/mess optional), and batteries; most important have emuna even if you miss out on a free filter mask.

When I was a a new immigrant in summer 2011, I called to get a gas mask, but was told that as a new immigrant I was not on "The list". I was told to fax my details to (I think) Misrad Hapnim. I did so within 24 hours. I heard nothing back and was about to chase it up when I had to leave Israel (not through choice by the way!).

The public mood in the UK seems very much to avoid any kind of military action, the arguments being given are that the war does not concern the UK, and we lost lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Tonight I listened a lot to Radio 5 Live, a national BBC channel devoted to news and sport.
It featured several Members of Parliament making an anti-war case, and a couple making a pro-military action case.

Most public callers were anti-intervention.

I was able to get through and spoke live on air for three minutes.
I made a case that Assad is evil and we need to destroy his chemical weapons.
Also that it is in the UK's interest to intervene, in that we buy a lot of liquid petroleum gas from Qatar, and sell them arms, so if we can aid their thru-Syria gas pipeline plans it would be a useful thing economically and geopolitically.

To Anonymous 11:33 Thank you for the info. But as someone else asked, how does one use the baking soda? And what is it called here in Israel? Are there two grades of soda - cooking and ________? Do we throw it on the floor? How does one apply the bleach?

My best bet for a sealed room is (don't laugh) the bathroom. Smallest window, running water, safe potty, large tub for water and food storage. Is bottled water preferable? If this becomes a necessity, should I sprinkle baking soda on the floor near the door and along the sliding window frame, of course before covering with plastic?

The more our histadlus and concentration on the one above, the better our teshuva.

This is the real reason all this is happening. G-d wants our teshuva, our thoughts, our hearts, and our fear too.

Jews are news. It is an axiom of journalism. An indispensable
axiom, too, because it is impossible to explain why the deeds and
misdeeds of dot-on-the-map Israel get an absurdly disproportionate
amount of news coverage around the world. If you are trying to guess
how much coverage any Middle East event received, and you are
permitted but one question, the best question you can ask about
the event is: Where there any Jews in the vicinity? The paradigmatic
case is the page in the International Herald Tribune that devoted
seven of its eight columns to the Palestinian uprising. Among the
headlines: "Israel Soldier Shot to Death; Palestinian Toll Rises
to 96." The eighth column carried a report that 5,000 Kurds died
in an Iraqi gas attack.
Whatever the reason, it is a fact that the world is far more
interested in what happens to Jews than to Kurds. It is perfectly
legitimate, therefore, for journalists to give the former more play.
But that makes it all the more incumbent to be fair in deciding how to play.

Why is that so? Why is it that of Israel a standard of behavior is demanded that is not just higher than its neighbors', not just equal to that of the West, but in fact far higher than that of any Western country in similar circumstances? Why the double standard?

The conscious deployment of a double standard directed at the

Sorry, if a person gets the 'gas' liquid droplets on their skin or clothing they can be decontaminated with a alkaline solution economica(bleach) or even dissolved baking soda though not as effective.
if it is just on clothes and not soaked through cut the clothing off with scissors, then decon the person.
Mustard 'gas' droplets will cause burns on skin even if mask is used protecting the face and lungs, use the alkaline decon to deactivate this blistering agent.
your shower is a great decon chamber use cold water to keep pores closed, if it was used for a real 'gas' decon though it is off limits as is the trash bagged and put outside clothing and shoes, we used kiddie inflatable pools as cheap disposable field decon stations. either plastic sack the exposed persons feet or lay down a sidewalk of plastic to the shower room. sack and put the path or bags outside with the clothes you cut off of the exposed person and anyone who had contact with them. you can make a decom suit by taping plastic trash bags together with duct tape.
if you have closed the shower room after deconing an exposed person an idea is to have the decon team wash off in the toilet room.
Turn off water to the toilet, open the sponga hole, put a rolled towel to bar runoff from the house at the door, close bathroom door. Cut off cover bags and clothes as required turn on water valve and use thumb to jet the water and use soap, bleach or baking soda as required to decon.
there is plenty of free literature about organophosphate, haz-mat, and even chemical weapon decontamination online.
The likelihood that anything more than sheltering in place for a few days would be required after a scattering of rockets make it through even without help from a fire dpt or military decon team since chemical weapon residue even from persistent agents does degrade quickly especially in hot weather simply from exposure to air and sunshine.

Report: Israel Agreed to 'Act With Restraint' Over Syria Attack

A Kuwaiti newspaper reported Thursday that Gulf leaders have been in touch with Israel, and have asked that Israel act “with restraint” in the event of an attack by Western nations on Syria. That restraint would be necessary if Bashar al-Assad responds to an attack against him by attacking Israel.

Earlier this week, Syrian officials said that if Syria was attacked, a coalition of nations and terror groups, including Syria, Iran, Lebanon, and Hezbollah, would respond with an all-out attack on Israel.

According to the report, Israel responded by saying that it would indeed exercise “restraint,” as long as the attacks on Israel “did not exceed reasonable bounds.” The report did not describe what those bounds were.

A separate report said that European Union officials have warned Assad not to attack Israel if he is attacked. The warning said that the EU could not be responsible for Israel's response. The message added that any attack against Assad was not aimed at removing him from power.

Anti-Semitism complaints against two California universities are dismissed
By JTA/JP

Select Language▼
Federal complaints accusing the University of California campuses in Berkeley and Santa Cruz of failing to curb hostile environments for Jewish students were dismissed.

A complaint filed last year with the US Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights against the Berkeley campus by two recent graduates referred specifically to the annual February Apartheid Week demonstration. It charged that the demonstration violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bars the recipients of federal funds from discriminating on the basis of race, color or national origin. In 2010, the US Department of Education extended Title VI to include the protection of Jewish students from anti-Semitism on campuses.

The Office of Civil Rights investigation, which included interviews with students and observations of the demonstrations, concluded this week that events described in the complaint did not constitute harassment but rather “expression on matters of public concern directed to the university community.”

“In the university environment, exposure to such robust and discordant expressions, even when personally offensive and hurtful, is a circumstance that a reasonable student in higher education may experience,” the probe concluded.

UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks said the claim of a hostile environment for Jewish students at Berkeley “is, on its face, entirely unfounded.”

Dirks added, “We will continue our ongoing efforts to protect free speech rights while promoting respectful dialogue and maintaining a campus environment that is safe for all our students.”

In a complaint against UC Santa Cruz, the Office of Civil Rights in a letter said it determined that the events described in the complaint “do not constitute actionable harassment.”

The investigation, opened in March 2011, focused on two events on campus in which speakers were critical of Israeli policies, on two other talks that had been planned but never took place and on several incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti.

The civil rights office determined that the campus “took prompt action to investigate … and to remove the graffiti.”

Vancouver Jewish community mulling options to stop anti-Israel campaign on buses
By JTA/JP
08/29/2013 05:17

The head of the Jewish federation in Vancouver and the Canadian city’s transit agency are at odds over the legality of an anti-Israel ad campaign on buses there.

The ads, which went up Tuesday, purport to show the “disappearance of Palestine due to Israeli occupation over the past 65 years.” The ads — 15 bus posters and one large “mural” in a station — consist of four maps spanning from 1946 to 2012 and illustrate “Palestine” shrinking over the years.

“This is of grave concern to our community at large because the ads make the use of the buses unwelcome and unsafe,” Mitchell Gropper, chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, told The Province newspaper.

TransLink, the transit agency, said in a written statement that it was advised by its lawyers that it was legally obligated to run the ads. But Gropper, an attorney, disagrees with TransLink’s legal determination and said the federation has retained a lawyer to consider its options.

“TransLink has said the law required them to publish these ads,” he said, “but that is certainly not the case.”

Report: Israeli Gas Masks For Sale on Ebay

Thousands of Israelis lined up at gas mask protection kit distribution centers around the country, ostensibly to obtain kits for their families in case of a Syrian attack on Israel. But at least some of those kits, it appears, are helping fuel an uptick of gas mask sales on the Internet, According to business daily Globes, there has been a sharp increase in the number of gas masks for sale on sites like eBay in recent weeks, with many of the sellers located in Israel.

Some of the masks are of the older variety, distributed in the early 2000s, which have since been recalled, while others are of the more advanced type being distributed now. The masks are being sold at prices between $25 and as much as $165, depending on the model.

Homefront Security Ministry officials have warned against using the old models, because they were found to be ineffective in protecting users from some chemical attacks. Despite that, Globes said, mask sales were brisk.

It is not known where the sellers were getting the old masks from, as they were supposed to have been destroyed. Officials are investigating possible illegal purchases of the masks by merchants from Israelis who never bothered to turn in their old masks.

Trust in HaShem

Mashal of the Dubner Maggid can help us to do so:

A weary Jew was once travelling along a dirt road schlepping a heavy load. A wealthy Jew in a wagon passed by, and kindly stopped to offer him a ride. He graciously accepted, and climbed aboard the wagon, where he sat down, resting his weary feet. Yet he refused to put down his heavy sack, which remained perched upon his shoulders. "Reb Yid," said the wagon owner, "why don't you put down your load?"

"I wouldn't want to be even more trouble," he said. "After all, it's kind enough of you to have taken me aboard! Why should your horses have to pull the additional weight of my sack?"

"But don't you understand - even if you carry your load on your shoulders, my horses are still schlepping you and your peklach! You're accomplishing nothing by carrying them on your shoulders - so throw them down and let my horses do the work!"

"Throw your load onto Hashem," says David HaMelech, "and He will take care of you (Tehillim/Psalms 55:23)!" He's running the show anyways, so you might as well throw your load on His shoulders! Not only will it ease your worries, it actually makes the blessings flow smoother.

Bitachon (Trust) - BeHaShem

The holy Rebbe R' Elimelech of Liezensk zt"l in his sefer Noam Elimelech (parshas Behar) cites his brother, R' Zisha, who explains the semantics here with a basic yet beautiful premise: When Hashem placed man on this world, His intention was to take care of all of his basic physical/material needs and necessities. To facilitate this, He established spiritual channels through which material blessing could flow from the upper spheres. Our task in not to create the channels - they are already there - but rather just to make sure we don't damage them and destroy the paths that have already been forged for our benefit.

There's an expression in Yiddish; "Az m'fregt iz pusel," which roughly translates into, "If you're asking the question, the answer is probably no." In our context, when we ask, thereby questioning Hashem's ability to provide for us, we damage the spiritual channels through which our sustenance and blessings should flow. As long as we rely on Hashem, without qualms or queries, things will take care of themselves in a most wondrous way. It's only when we start snooping around and stirring up the dust that our questions become a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy; because we ask, the question in fact becomes a very good question.

From where, indeed, are our blessings now going to come, seeing as how we've plugged up the channels with our doubts and misgivings? Az m'fregt - iz pusel!

The Ramban in parshas Bechukosai (Vayikra/Leviticus 26:11) writes that although the Torah gives permission for doctors to practice medicine, were we to conduct ourselves consistently according to Torah, there would be no need for them. For a Jew who places his complete trust in Hashem for all his needs, he writes, the miraculous becomes the norm. Things fall into place with very little effort, and blessings permeate and pervade his day-to-day life.

Once Ban got involved, probably because of Assad's visit to Russia, it appears they don't want to do anything. Assad is probably begging for interference. That leaves just Israel to eliminate the stockpiles of poison gas, if possible.

This is what I think is going on.

For whatever it is worth, years ago before the aerial bombardment during the 1st Persian Gulf War, I remembered a discussion about when the US would be most likely to begin an aerial bombardment of Iraq. Everyone seemed to agree that the best time for a nighttime bombardment is at the time of the waning moon from the last 6 days before the molad until the New Moon itself. The molad for Rosh HaShana this year is on Thursday, Sept. 5th, late morning, Rosh HaShana day itself. The 6 days therefore begins on Friday night. Perhaps it will be 6 days of creating a new and better world by destroying the old, corrupt world that the world has fallen into. But as of now, Obama is walking on so many eggshells afraid that he may break an egg, that it is unclear if he will do anything meaningful. An angel will have to give him a push.

Of course we will be blamed for it, but he might strike before that time as early as Friday night (25th of Elul). He is walking on eggshells. He is trying to avoid a confrontation with 3 other countries besides Syria (Russia, Persia, and China). Each of these three has different reasons why they support Assad. Putin wants the Mediterranean Coast for Russian ships. Iran wants the overland routes to be connected to Hezbollah. And China...may want something from those overland routes too. China is an enigma. So avoiding WW3 means trying not to step on the toes of three world powers independently of each other. As of right now, an angel will have to give Obama a push into the Zone of Crazy. He is a scared puppy right now.

Vital sarin antidote missing from gas mask kits. Anti-chemical warfare supplies being distributed to Israelis lack atropine and pralidoxime, the key remedies to nerve gas

The Mark I NAAK, or MARK I Kit, is United States military nomenclature for the "Nerve Agent Antidote Kit". More at Wikipedia

Another factor regarding both Russia and China is that they understandably suspect the US / West of seeking to use Sunni islam as a sword for containing and carving up Washington's former Cold War adversaries, due to both having restive muslim-dominated regions.

As I wrote twice above: I instinctively felt something amiss in this whole gas episode. Not surprised. He was probably aiming for the Kurds, and missed.

I don't know Jesterhead. There are only slightly more than 20 million Muslims in China which is between 1 to 2% of the Chinese population. I think that most of them are Sunni, but are they restive? I think that their support for Assad may have something to do with the Silk route which was often traveled by Muslims and did go through what is now Syria. So perhaps the Chinese think that their overland gateway to the Mediterranean is through Syria, and Assad has been friendly to that notion.

Russia is a different issue. They do have a large restive Muslim population which is often brutally crushed.

Dov

With China, they likely fear that the US/West's ark of islam agenda will cause more problems with the already restive Xinjiang province which Uyghur separatists want to turn into East Turkestan.

A Post-Assad Syria where an empowered US/Western-backed al qaeda / muslim brotherhood with ambitions of restoring the calihpate starts sending foreign jihadists to Xinjiang as well as radicalising other muslim groups within China itself would be a absolute worse-case scenario for China.

What a Youtube video! Jews who love Israel who go to Syria to help Syrians in dire straits. Of course the Arabs would never do this if the shoe were on the other foot. This is fine as long as they are not Jews who would hurt their own people to help our enemies. Sadly we have a few of those.
