Desiring Eretz Yisrael and Yom Kippur Katan

I decided to copy my last comment from the previous post and copy it here. It is a response to several heated letters at the end of the last post about moving to Eretz Yisrael. I want to calm down the argument on this subject. It is an unnecessary source of friction even though it is a good positive attitude to at least desire intensely to be here at this time. Working toward that goal if your life's circumstances permit and after asking for Rabbinic guidance here in Israel is the important next step. I also wrote a short piece on Yom Kippur Katan which is today!

Wow I must admit that I did not expect the spate of anger for and against Jews being here in Eretz Yisrael this time during the thick of the War of Gog W. (read U) MaGog (read son of Gog). For those in Chul (outside Israel) please desire to be here as soon as possible. America's geshmackt lifestyle is coming to a close, but your desire to be here should be because you want to help perfect G-d's world most effectively. Desiring to be here should be intimately intertwined with the above purpose.Escaping the disasters that might yet befall America should be secondary to the above. Yet, lest you think that it will not get worse, please do not fool yourselves. I say this realizing that many are trapped in America because of debts and other pressing financial or medical situations that prevent their true desires from being fulfilled. For those you do not desire to be here as soon as possible, you should take stock of your spiritual self. It is for that, that you will need to account before G-d. I say this without malice. It is just a matter of fact that when Jews are suffering in Eretz Yisrael in order that the rest of the world can prosper, one needs to wonder whether the geshmackt way of life is continuing to help Jews in America gather sparks of purity through mitzva observance or whether they are helping to feed the husks of impurity that surround them. True, Hashem desires our attempts to cleave to him through mitzvot no matter where we are. The Ramchal in "The Way of HaShem" discusses the delicate balance between our work on perfecting ourselves in G-d's eyes through character development and mitzva observance and how these things lead to the perfection of the world while we are working on ourselves.

Yet, when Lavan's face changes, the Shekhinah (the Divine Presence) is on His/Her way out the door. Yakov Avinu left Lavan's house when his face changed. Perhaps those who worked for the re-election of Gog W. to Bait Lavan (The White House) should take a good look at his face these days. Summary investigations of AIPAC for no good reason and fears about speaking up to the man that many Orthodox Jews just helped re-elect about Gush Katif provide a convincing argument to the fact that the face of Lavan is not the same as it was even one year ago. (Actually, I believe that this was always Gog W.'s face. He just needed your votes.) Yet, his outward face has definitely changed. Since the beginning of the Al Aksa Intafada, signs were posted in America that prosperity there depended on "Israeli restraint" to vicious random slaughter. Bush's Saudi handlers would have it no other way. In short, the Shekhina already was knocking hard, "I am getting ready to leave this great American exile. Do you hear me knocking!" Now it has reached the point that many (but not all) American Jews are afraid to loudly cry out in an effective organizational way against the destruction of Jewish communities in Eretz Yisrael. By this point the Shekhina has left the platform. (The platform is now one big oily mess!) It is important to know when the Shekhina is leaving in order to know if you are still gathering sparks of holiness or if you are now feeding the klipot even through mitzvot. This is true even if G-d desires our mitzvot everywhere on the globe. How G-d balances His desire for Mitzvot and the feeding of the husks of impurity through Mitzvot is one of His closely guarded secrets. He loves His sheep in America and does not wish them harm, but the redemption depends on doing Mitzvot here more than there now that the Shekhina is leaving America. ( I discussed this point with Rav Pinchus Winston. He said that the sefer "Tuv HaAretz" makes this point succinctly.) So when America uproots Torah here in EY, there is Azezel to pay.

G-d in His Infinite Wisdom will gather the Golah (the lagging exiles that survive the storm of Gog UMagog) after Mashiach comes too, but for the sake of easing his coming, for G-d's sake and for ours, please desire intensely to be here now even if you cannot get here for whatever legitimate reason. Try to come to terms with the fact that although there is always eternal reward for mitzvot observance, the effect of doing so now in Chul (outside the Land) now that the Shekhina has left the platform is to feed the klipot, the husks of spiritual impurity that are around you. At the very least, those husks are now demanding an even heavier portion of tax on your mitzvah observance. I realize in this way the Creator is patient with His lagging sheep even if they are lagging for legitimate reasons. Just at this stage of the War of Gog W. (think U) Magog if your reasons are legit, at least desire to be here.

Enough said on this subject. NO HATRED HERE. With love, Dov

Also today is Yom Kippur Katan, the day before Rosh Hodesh Elul. Of course that day is really Shabbat this year, but let us all fast until noon tomorrow and reflect on our need to do teshuva for the next 40 days beginning on Saturday night. Also reflect on how Esau does his 40 days of repentence during his 40 day period of penitence (between Ash Wednesday and Easter). How does he spend the day before in preparation for his 40 days? The place most notorious for the debauchery preceding his 40 days of penitence is now sitting in several feet of water. While many decent folk have suffered and are continuing to suffer in this awesome tragedy, it is appropriate to reflect on what we should do to appropriately prepare for the Days of Awe on this Yom Kippur Katan. We should not treat the day before the 40 days as a day of wanton pleasure with no serious reflection, G-d forbid. I have a sense that this 40 day period of penitence may be the most awesome period of prep. in history. Just a sense, no prophesy. Let us prepare properly for the 2nd year of Sukkot, the year of Yitzkhak (Isaac). More next week on the unfolding judgment with an article soon on the year 5765, the first year of Sukkot, the year of Avraham. Remember in this year G-d has cursed those who have cursed us, in both cases with water. Yes, sadly America has misused its blessing for helping out so generously with the victims of the tsunami. Until now America was blessed this year with economic bounty for its chessed during the aftermath of the tsunami, but it has spoiled its bracha with this vile sin of destruction here in the Holy Land. America was warned during Hurricane Ivan on Rosh HaShana to not play G-d with Jewish communities here. Gog W. wanted His seat on the Heavenly Throne. G-d showed that His seat is not vacant for Gog to sit there.

"Everywhere the Jews were exiled, the shechina was with them...Even when they are redeemed, the shechina is with them, as it says v'shav Hashem Elokeichem es shvuscha (Hashem will return your captivity) -- not heshiv (to make something else return) but v'shav (will itself return)." (Gemara Brochos)

"That is to say that even in the last moment of the exile, the shechina is found in the place where the Jews were exiled...and from there the Holy One returns with all of the Jews to the Bais Hamikdash in Yerushalayim..." (Lubavitcher Rebbe)

I didn't see any hatred or even bad feeling going towards Jews in Eretz Yisrael, chas v'shalom!

I did see such (and unfortunately I've seen a lot of it, here and other places on the 'net) coming the other direction.

Usually, that sort of anger is a sign that the person deep down knows that there is a problem with their idealogy and they resent that fact that the other person doesn't agree. It used to really get the church into a froth that the Jews didn't accept their "truth". A similar phenomenon is seen, lehavdil, among reform and conservative who get indignant that youdon't consider their Judaism to be Judaism. If it was true, they wouldn't need your approval, etc. And also we see it with those who have follow the idealogy forged by those who disobeyed the leaders of their generation to make the same mistake the tribe of Ephraim made, trying to enter the Land at the wrong time.

Time for unity and geulah. The rest of this is just petty nonesense.

Just so I have this straight, A-chinam, it's your position that those in Israel jumped the gun on the geula, entered the land before the proper time and therefore are guilty of crossing G-d's plan and therefore I can only assume, in your view then, deserving of all the tsuras that have befallen them there?

Cuz that's how it sounds to me. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, just curious to know...aren't you secretly glad you aren't one of "them"?

BS"D

Wherever 10 Jews are assembled the Shecheena rests with them. So much for Dov's assertion that the Shecheena is leaving America. That America's fate is in free fall right now manifested on September 11, 2001 when Tiferes began to spill into Malchus...and the Malchus of the Rebbe began benefitting therefrom as the malchus of Edom lessens.

There are 3 operative issues in Dov's latest post that need to be addressed publicly in order to spare Jews unneeded suffering arising from reading and possibly even believing them. ch"v"Sh.

Dov, I am now making a public charge against you and Rabbi Winston for the welfare of the needs of the Jewish community...you both are a black pot causing nezek. You both are oiver "leefnay ebur."

Issue #1: Fear and guilt mongering.

Only Hashem and a Novi Emes know the future. Neither you nor R. Winston are a novi. Based on the Gog related Prophecies found in Tenach there is more liklihood for Yerushalayim to get decimated than New York or New Jersey.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe made no directive to Jews as a whole world-wide to move to Eretz Yisroel. The one who's job it is to ingather all of world Jewry is Moshiach alone...not some "hot to trot" Zionists who have made living in Israel the sole central mandatory mitzvah that takes precedence over all others. Such theosophy in Torah garb is open and shut perversion of Torah derving of rebuke and public warning. The ikker mitzvah is still Tzedoka. And American Jewish tzedoka to Eretz Yisroel is paving both your streets and making both your toilets work. How dare you look down on these Jews with such arrogant proclamations! Ponder this... this Elul. Both of you.

Issue #2: "We are where it's at" elitistic, self infatuated Torah observance which judges condescendingly any and all other Jews who disagree that the "elites" are in sole possession of the Torah. Kodesh Yidden who disagree with such elitism and who know full well that the daas Torah of these self imagined elitists is NOT the "Kodesh Kodesheem" it poses itself to be.

Issue #3:

After personally watching you and Rabbi Winston spout off this deceptive misrepresentation of Torah going on 2 years now..something is becoming ever more clear. There exists an inner need within both of you to belittle Jews who have not made the same choices as yourselves. By pushing and putting these Holy Yidden down...with despicable fear and guilt mongering... you define your own Yiddishkeit in terms of not being "like them."
How sick that is! How revealing of spiritual deficiencies.

Worry about your own avoda's contribution to the sitra achra, Dov. You can begin with arrogance and your uneeded and unwarranted judgemental tendencies.

Your have morphed from scholar to sherrif. Get back on the Torah dispensing track please.

Hi all,

I think there is a great misunderstanding going on that causes all of that unnecessary friction. When making statements, Dov & Co, do not pass judgements, aim to spark up some hate-debate, or try to prophesise the future. While they do come across strongly, it’s not an attack on their behalf. As a Diaspora Jew, I feel that what Dov is trying to do is to reach out and make certain that we understand the gravity of the situation. Living further from the “heart”, Eretz Yisrael, it is easy to get caught up in things that are at this stage are not just irrelevant and distractive, but also spiritually dangerous and destructive. In my opinion Dov is trying to get to us before some spiritual or physical hurricane.

There is absolutely no need to get frustrated. If you think Dov & Co are wrong in their message, move on to something else. If you think they are wrong in their manner go and watch the news and figure it out by yourselves.

Kind regards

Shabbat Shalom

Dear Rabbi Yess,

Rabbi Winston personally responded to an e-mail of mine explaining to me that if one desires with his heart to one day live in the Land of Israel, that is what counts. He said it is okay if you can't make it for now but that you should yearn to want to be there. I don't think he ever has made me feel guilty. I have been reading his articles for years. There are some incredible people who had a great impact on my journey going from secular Jew to becoming the observant Jew that I am today. He is most definately one of those special people.

It saddens me to read your post. There is one person in particular (IMHO) on this website whom your letter should have been directed towards but I don't think it should have been the two in which it was addressed to.

just to respond to what Mogil mentioned about Gaza...

...It took two weeks for Sharon to unfold his expultion, it only took one day for Hashem to unfold His. At this stage there are1.4 million of Arabs occupying Gaza. For a long time it seemed that they were unmovable. Yet current events show that, when G-d is willing, in a matter of days over a million of people can be displaced....

may Hashem be willing for these days to come now!

Just want to add my voice to those defending Dov on his web site. While he does encourage people to make Aliya, it is not done in a way to make anyone feel guilty about having to stay in Chu"l if necessary. However, if there are additional blows to the US (natural disasters or terror attacks), these will have more effect than any web site. Just noticed that this weeks Parsha states three times "You should pour it on the earth like WATER". Referring to the blood of animals eaten for food, outside of the Bais Hamikdosh. Well, maybe those who are eating too much of materialism outside of Eretz Yisrael are getting a message. Those who express anger at Dov may subconciously be afraid he is right that America is being punished, and the comfortable life may not continue indefinitely. We all know that not everyone agrees that living in Eretz Yisrael is obligatory, but it is certainly a tremendous Mitzva, and those who breath the air in Eretz (except for maybe the present leadership) become spiritually wise. My only suggestion for Dov is to cite specific sources from Gedolim for his "cosmic clock" speculation, that we are entering 2nd day of Succos starting this Rosh Hashana. Also, I hope Dov can edit out speculative comments and criticism about whether the moshiach did or did not come yet, it sounds too much like a Xtian philosophy discussion and is not the purpose of this web site. We have to do actions and change, learn the messages that Hashem is sending us in current events, take actions to make the world better and not just talk about Moshiach. Thanks. www.toralog.blogspot.com.

It seems to me that all the talk about Jews from chutz la'aretz being magically transported to the Holy Land in peace and comfort and joy was a vision of redemption in haste.

It seems to me that we have, chas v'shalom, squandered every oportunity for such a scenario and are now G-D forbid, in the midst of redemption in its time. I don't believe we can look at what is left of Gush Katif and what has happened in Israel over the past few weeks and months and find any reason to think otherwise. (Or elsewhere in the world for that matter.)

I always used to wonder how it was that so many Jews were lost in Europe, G-D help us! I used to wonder so often why it was they waited too long. I don't have to wonder any longer. I only have to ask a Jew in the Diaspora why he remains yet in the Diaspora and I can know.

It seems to me that what we are seeing in New Orleans is a glimpse, G-D forbid! of what is awaiting our own brethren in the Diaspora. Like the people of New Orleans who thought for one reason or another that either the storm wouldn't come, or it wouldn't be so bad or they preferred to risk life and limb to protect their assets or they couldn't "afford" to leave or whatever other "good" reason prevailed upon them to ignore warnings to flee, they found themselves enduring ghastly and inhuman conditions and deprivations, G-D forbid!

I don't wish such a predicament upon anyone, least of all my loved ones. If only I could make them hear and understand the danger of remaining within the path of the coming storm!!

G-D have mercy on us all as we look to Hashem to preserve us from the trials and terrors of redemption in its time.

It is written in the Chesed l'Avraham that beginning in the year 5760 a great flood would rise up to inundate the world, but the Land of Israel would be like the ark of Noah.

An interesting aside. Three more tropical systems have formed just over the last few days over the Atlantic. The most recent one just formed this morning -- Tropical Storm Ophelia - just off the coast of Florida, in a very similar spot where Katrina formed. It is quite amazing that it is only early September and there is already a tropical storm assigned the letter "O"! By the way, according to the National Hurricane Center discussion on Tropical Storm Ophelia, there is a major disagreement between the weather models as to whether Tropical Storm Ophelia will be heading north and then either perhaps hit the Southeast U.S. coastline or head our to sea --OR-- if it will hit Florida peninsula and then cross into the Gulf of Mexico.

A very strong class X17.1 solar flare has exploded on the Sun. This is a significant event. Very few solar flares ever reach the X-class rating, and far fewer ever exceed an X10 level. Only a few solar flares each solar cycle (a 10-year period) exceed an X10 rating. An X17 solar flare is 17 times more intense in x-rays than a class X1.0 (which is, by itself, a very energetic event). The sunspot complex responsible for this event is a region which was responsible for producing periods of severe geomagnetic storming last month. It's longevity is impressive, as most sunspot groups do not survive this long. There is a chance the extreme western flanking edge of the associated shock wave may reach the Earth sometime on September 9. We expect additional major flares and possibly additional significant major flares of X10 or greater intensities, during the next week. Additional possible major solar flares from this region during the next two weeks could easily provide the impetus for very strong space weather storms. During that time, if it retains its volatility, it may produce some serious effects at the Earth. The health of spacecraft may be compromised if additional extreme events are observed. Power grids may suffer from induced currents caused by intense geomagnetic storms. Radio communications may suffer from strong scintillation and absorption. And large regions of the Earth may be able to spot periods of auroral activity ("northern lights"). The region will be best positioned to inflict strong impacts on the Earth in approximately another 4 to 5 days, with maximal effects possible from roughly September 11 through September 18. These strong solar flares pose no known significant health threat to humans on the Earth. However, some sensitive industries on the ground can be adversely effected, including electrical power generation facilities, ionospheric radio communications, satellite communications, cellular phone networks, sensitive fabrication industries, and others. During the next two weeks, these industries may see an increase in "anomalous incidents that may be attributed to space weather effects".

Ophelia reaches hurricane status

We had Katrina now Ophelia

K. O.

The Judges Barak, Bainisch, Focaccia and Grunis
(Boreka, Knish, Focaccia and Gurnish)
Decide to terminate the last remaining Jewish presence in Gush-Katif

Hashem sent Katrina

Then Mary - Nate (Marinate)

New Orleans under water for a few days

Now Ophelia for a final punch.

I do not know wether to pray that it does not happen or that it does happen

I have no idea where is heading. Nor anybody else w/o spiritual eyes.

One interesting point. The Israeli supreme court decided 4-3 that the synagogues in Gush Katif and Northern Shomron should be destroyed.

All of a sudden, Ophelia became hurricane status.

We'll just have to see if it amounts to anything.
