It is a day of great simcha amongst the nation of Am Yisrael. Our PM Binyamin Netanyahu, the gilgul or bechinah of Shaul HaMelekh just became a man tonight. G-d help us that it will last and that he won't wimp out when the entire world comes against us. He will need much emunah and bitachon that HaShem will redeem us from the wicked world. Over 13 years after the beginning of the Al Aksa Intifada, the Prime Minister of Israel just declared our independence from the rest of the world and their freaking opinion. Here is the latest Bar Ilan speech in the form of a story on Arutz 7: PM becomes a Man and not simply the face of a dog. Mark this day on your calendar as a day of remembrance: 3rd of MarCheshvan 5774. It is a day of our independence from the false and evil beliefs of this world of lies. It is a day where our elected leader decided that it no longer mattered what the opinion of Mankind was or even what the opinion of the American President is. Holy, holy, holy is the L-rd of Hosts, the entire world is filled with his Glory. What a great day for Klal Yisrael. And for yours truly after ten years of living under the oppression of leadership that was in constant fear of world public opinion and other related decrepit gods, I can go to bed with a big smile on my face for crossing a Rubicon or better yet a Gichon Spring of sorts. The bloodshed in Mitzraim has now reached 50 for yesterday alone. They were celebrating their "victory" over Israel in the Yom Kippur War. The 7th year 5775 should be the Plague of Fire. Notice in the Hoshana Rabba circuits (hakafot), the 7th hakafah is all about fire. The 6th hakafah is about extracting what is pure from a morass of impurity. With further explanation to follow the plague for the 6th year will be that our enemies will be waist deep in the blood that they wish upon us, and the plague of the 7th year will be Fire. The Date Palms of Smoke may follow if Persia gets a nuclear bomb. Perhaps G-d will have mercy and count Hiroshima and Nagasaki as enough Date Palms of Smoke. Unlike Blood and Fire, the residue of Date Palms of Smoke can pollute the earth radioactively for hundreds of years.
It is with heavy heart that I write this comment.
I recently posted that the Simon Schama documentary "The Story of the Jews", on BBC1, was worth watching.
I remain convinced it was visually excellent.
But after watching all five episodes, I urge caution.
One criticism is what is omitted, the series is much more a social history than a religious one.
My main criticisim though is that the last episode presents a dark and oppressive view of Israel. For Schama, a British Jew, the early 1960's Labour Zionist dominated Israel remains the 'true Israel'.
It seems that in his opinion, today's country where Jews live on the West Bank, is a betrayal of democracy and Jewish values.
He allows the National Religious viewpoint to be aired, but criticises it as idealistic and unfair.
He seems aghast at the very presence of Jews in Judea and Samaria.
Whilst I personally acknowledge that the Arabs of the West Bank do deserve a better deal, and do believe that they have a less easy time of things than their counterparts in the regions of Israel to the West of the West Bank, I found Schama's disdain of Jewish West Bank life to be hurtful, dismissive of our historical and religious inheritance, and militarily dangerous.
He framed it as being about Jewish value for quality of life not being extended to Arabs, but I saw it as a backfoot defensive stance that plays right into the hands of Palestinian propaganda.

Neshama: The main source is that ALL of our mitzvot that revolve around giving money to the Beit HaMikdash or to the Kohen revolve around silver coins, all of them. We can safely assume that real silver coins will NOT be an anachronism at the End of Days. Silver coins, along with a few gold coins to store a lot of value in a small coin, will be the currency during Yemot HaMashiach. Kesef, the metal, is the essence of desire and the store of taivah (desire) which has to be directed toward a holy purpose. So silver is the medium of exchange for the things that we desire.
Gold, on the other hand, represents the seat of Gaivah, pride, which must be carefully controlled and in many cases eliminated. So while gold can be a store of value, it cannot be common currency. Gaivah is far more dangerous than taivah and far more difficult to control.
Just to complete the list, Copper represents Chcchmah (wisdom) which must be subservient to G-d but in charge of both our gaivah and our taivah.
Fiat by definition is fake, arbitrary, and not real and cannot be a store of long term value. Nor can it be a stable currency. If Avraham Avinu had purchased the Cave of the Patriarchs from Efron the Hittite for $400,000 instead of 400 silver shekels, we would not be able to demonstrate ownership 3700 years later. 3700 years later we would be questioning whether Avraham purchased the Cave for its fair market value.

Yes, there were also 600,000 Jews either at the Kotel or trying to get to the Kotel on the 5th of Av 5765 to plead for HaShem to try to stop the evacuation from Gush Katif. But we had a problem. The same people who set up the closed circuit tv system to ban unfiltered access to the Internet from Mets Stadium in New York, did not think it was important enough to set up a closed circuit tv system to stop the evacuation. We would have had a virtual audience of 600,000 Jews if they had filled up Mets Stadium to try to stop the evacuation from Gush Katif and to save the subsequent lives and limbs that were lost. What they won't tell you about Thanksgiving Neshama for all those excited American Jews is that this is likely the last or more likely the second to last American Thanksgiving that will ever be celebrated. Nehama Consuelo Timstitt aka Nehama Consuelo bat Sarah Imenu v'Avraham Avinu, z"l
Note: Consuelo is Spanish for Nehama (consolation); so, it's a double name, like Dov Ber.
Nehama became a giyoret some 40 years ago here in Israel after moving here in 1972. She went on to write numerous articles, and compiled, edited and contributed to some books (you can still find one reference on the internet under the name Nehama Consuelo Nahmoud - namely Parables from Bagdad in the Sephardic Heritage Series - sadly, long out of print). Nehama spoke, and was literate in, at least six languages, including English, Russian, French, Hebrew, Portuguese and Czech. (She tried learning Arabic, but found even the children's books too violent to continue. What she remembered, she used well.)
She chose the Sephardic path, having first encountered Jews from this heritage in France before coming to Israel and officially making aliyah. She helped bring about the raising up of the Sephardic community here, and often remembered the day when a parade of students marched into her beit-knesset singing "Ashorer Shirah," an old, famous Spanish-style song. The occasion was a victory of some sort that I don't remember, to my shame.
She was also a musician, having played the saxophone, clarinet and oboe - this last became her love in her later years. She formed and headed the women's chamber orchestra "Alei Hadas" for quite a number of years. Some of you may have heard of this group.
Nehama's spiritual leanings ranged from the Ben Ish Hai to Rebbi Nachman of Breslev. She read avidly from the books of Rabbi Zelig Pliskin (who spoke movingly at her funeral last night), and Rabbanit Tzipporah Heller (who has written about her - but you wouldn't know it because the incident(s) in question was (were) disguised).
She had quite a group of friends and supporters, of which I was one of the latest. I thought I would share this with you as best I can now, because of the chance that some of the Israelis who read here might remember her, and because she passed so close behind Rav Yosef that traffic was still tied up so badly that I had to give up on a cab ride to the funeral and had to walk - and barely made it in time.
One of our mutual friends pointed out that her last Shabbat in this world was No'ach - related to her name.
There is so much more than what I have written here...sorry if it's too long as it is.

Even though he'd made a decision on land for peace, it doesn't mean he didn't make a mistake. Men make mistakes. Moshe Rabbeinu made mistakes. If you find out that throwing Jews out of their home 'for peace' only brought the enemy closer and now he is shooting rockets from a closer position, do you still stick to that stubborn opinion even if it causes some of the worst damage to the Jewish nation? Land for peace has been an abject failure. When your partner in peace is a pathological liar whose pastime is thinking of ways to kill Jews, there is nothing you can do to bring peace. Nothing! Well this was the problem all along. The conditions for any territorial abandonment will never be met. Every single one of these has lead to the spilling of Jewish blood by the gallons. Even the Egyptian Peace Treaty lead to bloodshed by allowing tunnels into Gaza from territory that should never have been abandoned, the northeastern Sinai. If Israel had controlled it there never would have been tunnels into Gaza and there would have been no need for a Philadelphi corridor. Gaza would be surrounded by Israeli troops. Of course the northeastern Sinai is part of Eretz Yisrael according to the Book of Numbers, all the way to Wadi El Arish which was the ancient border with Egypt.
According to the Chareidi Worldview, how much Jewish blood has to be spilt until someone figures out that this land for Peace business is not working out? Are they still in perpetual galut mode? That attitude leads to loss of life and the shedding of Jewish blood.
My least favorite story from the Disengagment was when the Ashkenazi Chareidi party did a calculation that missiles from Gaza would never reach Bnei Brak or even Ashdod, where one of the leaders of UTJ has a synagogue and a Yeshivah. What someone forgot to tell one of the only Chassidic Rebbes who supported the Disengagement who was in control of Agudath Yisrael Party faction of UTJ was that if Israel abandoned the four buffer yishuvim in Northern Gaza, missiles from the northern tip of Gaza abandoned by Israel would reach Ashdod. About two or three years ago, there was a missile attack on Ashdod which has suffered more than its share of missile attacks. One of the missiles crashed through the roof of the synagogue of this particular Chassidic sect, and the missile did not explode. It landed hanging from the ceiling with the tip of the missile touching the bimah in the synagogue, where the Torah is read, of this particular sect that supported the Disengagement. No one learned a lesson. Their choice for UTJ Knesset Minister is still serving as one of the heads of UTJ as he served in Sharon's Disengagement Govt. If you want to wonder why G-d is allowing Chareidim to be drafted, look into choices that were made in previous Shmittah cycles for the answer. And stop blaming everyone else for poor decisions of those who one might consider a Gadol. You can't vote to support yeshivot out of missile range while others suffer for your support for withdrawals in order to get the money and then expect G-d not to notice.
If UTJ gets rid of Moshe Gafni and this man and replaces them with Meir Porush and Yisrael Eichler, the Chareidi fortunes will likely improve. G-d will be happier with the situation at least. It would at least demonstrate regret for the Crime of 5765.
What do you think G-d has to say about Jews who couldn't care less about their brothers being uprooted- whose hearts are leather-bound? Do you think a ruling must stand for it's own sake despite the misery it causes? This is a chillul Hashem, plain and simple.
Yes, Moriah it is a Chilul HaShem, and all of those who ruled that way have delayed the Geulah from the previous kinder and gentler Gog W. ben Gog Shmittah cycle to this one with the 11th horn dude. The good news is that they can't delay it anymore. In Sefer Daniel we are assured of that, and the Gemorrah in Sanhedrin validates that. All will be completed from the World of Lies by the end of 5775. And in 5775 itself, the wicked will be engulfed in Fire. This is the promise of the 7th circuit on Hoshana Rabba. The only one amongst them who will tie up the Debt Ceiling with ObamaCare is Obama himself. Congress with Boehner will try to separate the two. He will allow a vote on the Debt Ceiling even if the majority of Republicans are against it. It will pass with almost all the Democrats and a few Republicans. And the Senate will of course raise the ceiling. The President is a revolutionary, not a liberal. He may very well want collapse now, and might demand that ObamaCare be funded so that the Debt Ceiling can be raised. We will have a better idea next week. Under normal circumstances, and it is not normal now, The Powers at Be would raise the Debt Ceiling unlinking it from everything else.
People need to look at the trends in the news rather than every single event.
In about 2006 the world was introduced to what was then referred to as the "sub-prime mortgage bubble". Sub-prime mortgages were mortgages given to people who were not necessarily credit worthy. When that bubble burst back in around '06, all the "optimists" said that the damage was limited to the sub-prime sector and it was, therefore, going to be manageable.
Then the trend started to rattle the wider real estate market and we began to hear whispers of a possible real estate bubble (not limited to only the sub-prime sector). In other words, the over all trend got worse.
Then the financial institutions involved in the sub-prime market and some of the more speculative aspects of the real estate market started to falter and fail (think Lehman, AIG, etc...) In other words, the over all trend got worse again.

Here in the US, the City of Detroit filed for bankruptcy! And the downward trajectory continues.
Now, a possible US default on debt payments is being discussed. Whether it happens or not I irrelevant. The fact that it is being discussed is what matters. Only a few years ago, these discussions would be unheard of. Today, however, we live in a world where it is possible (albeit unlikely at this time) that the US will not be able to pay its debts. In other words, the trend has gotten SHOCKINGLY WORSE.
(Parenthetically, the fact that a default is being discussed means that at some point it will probably be a reality. That's how things work over here. First they discuss disaster but avoid it. However, the discussions desensitize people to the disaster and make it seem somehow normal or acceptable so that at some point in the future when the US does actually go over the cliff it will not be that big of a shock.)
The bottom line is that if you pay attention to every detail of news, every financial report, every unemployment statistic, every financial indicator, etc.. you will get lost in the details and lose sight of the big picture. On the other hand, if you ignore every tiny detail and instead focus on the broader trend it is undeniable that the US is a sinking ship.

The interim fix basically allows more dollars to be printed to buy more American Federal debt as it climbs above 17 trillion dollars in debt. The more dollars that are "printed" or digitalized into the system, the more worthless it becomes.
As long as there was an option that Congress would slash federal spending rather than raising the debt ceiling, there was upward pressure on the dollar. As soon as it became obvious that there would be no serious spending cuts which translates into more dollars chasing more Federal debt, the dollar went down. The one thing keeping it from total collapse, mind you, is record low US interest rates for almost five years now. According to Buckner, they will be able to pull this off for maybe one more year, but no longer. Interest rates will eventually have to go up, and then watch out how fast the dollar plunges.
If you are in Israel, get out of the dollar and dollar indexed paychecks. My sense is that G-d will provide for those on Social Security, but take pre-emptive action now in whatever ways you can to not tie your income only to the dollar. Shabbat Shalom.

This secular orientation has stripped Israel of the tools necessary to reflect the Jewishness of the state and its ultimate holy purpose.
The very Zionist ideology that built the modern state of Israel has now turned against itself as it seeks to purge itself of its Biblical roots and Divine purpose. This self-destructive bent is the ultimate conclusion of the secular ideology upon which Zionism is based. It also explains the zeal of Israeli governments -- both left and right -- to divest Israel of its heartland. "Peace" has become a euphemism for the desire to rid Israel of its Jewish identity.
From "Safe Haven" to Surrender
Modern Israel's obsession with international recognition derives from the very foundation of Zionism. Theodore Herzl saw international recognition as a cornerstone of the Zionist movement and as integral to Israel's declared purpose as a safe haven for the Jewish People. This explains the near fixation that the state of Israel still displays to this very day with international approval. Israel has been willing to do almost anything (relinquish vital land, release terrorists, evade pre-emptive strikes or even refrain from counter-attack) making many grave and costly concessions at the expense of the very lives of its citizens in order to achieve this elusive endorsement. Ironically, it is this obsessive desire for international approval that has seriously compromised the security of the residents of the "safe haven."
A State of All its Citizens
In modern Western thought, nationalism is now passé. Modern countries of the "global village" are comprised of citizens from various cultures and places of origin. What binds them together is the mere fact that they all live in the same place, and eventually adopt a common language, and later, a common culture and history. This trend has also been adopted in modern day Israel. The momentum toward citizenship for all residents of Israel, regardless of their religion, is part of the Zionist ideology based on Western culture. If not checked, it will effectively transform Israel from a Jewish state to a state with some Jewish citizens.
